The project

The context

The five-star Miramar La Cigale hotel leaves no one indifferent. With its astonishing and unique architecture, it stands like an anchored ocean liner with its decks and cabins, moored in the middle of a seawater reservoir, with the real sea unfolding on the horizon, 300 meters ahead. Built twenty years ago as a hotel, thalassotherapy, and spa center, the building and its operation were facing new challenges, which led to a project of extension and complete interior rejuvenation. The construction work was completed in just six months in 2015.

The layouts

Immersion in the heart of a marine ecosystem. Drawing inspiration from the animal and plant worlds of the sea. Creating a haven of well-being conducive to rest and relaxation. Halfway between shells, mother-of-pearl, and water reflections, the texture and colors of the entrance airlock walls evoke the waves of the sea and lead visitors toward a majestic hall. In a setting reminiscent of a fishing port, the furniture elements recall the imagery of ship prows, while a movement on the floor imitates marine currents.

Interior architecture

Each living space was designed to provide comfort, serenity, and freedom. Transformed into a true haven of well-being, the hotel allows the magic of the place to unfold, bringing the ecosystem of wellness and that of the sea into harmony. The creation of a fourth floor beneath a glass roof offers hotel guests new areas for relaxation and well-being, the rooms have been redesigned to meet five-star standards, and the circulation areas now facilitate flow and transition between the hotel and thalassotherapy spaces.

Journey to the heart of the Miramar

Access to the ship, meaning the entrance, is marked by a mineral and plant garden composed of Breton schist and dune flowers, and is sheltered by a canopy shaped like a manta ray. Visitors enter through a “shell airlock” leading to the building’s main hall.

Bright and luminous, the ceiling appears inhabited by a few living pearly organisms. In this setting, the furniture elements evoke images of ship prows and shuttles. While a movement on the floor recalls marine currents, the ceiling, clear and radiant, is composed of curves and pearly light fixtures reminiscent of real living forms. At its center, the gangway, the centerpiece of the space, reflects the floor’s movements and is adorned with a pearly skin that enhances, illuminates, and defines it. To maintain harmony with its grandeur, the guardrails have been redesigned in the spirit of the great ocean liners of the past. The thalassotherapy area leads visitors beneath the sea, where nature reclaims its place. The pillars, for instance, are clad with shell-like textures inspired by mussel poles, and the furnishings evoke marine concretions, all brought to life through the use of light materials and soft hues, combined with projected light effects that suggest the transparency of water and make the spaces dance. Finally, the rooms invite guests to shift scale and enter the world of the shell. True pearly, white, and silver sanctuaries, they are particularly luminous, with rounded, curved forms designed above all to provide comfort, well-being, and rest.

Hotel suites

An underwater habitat.

The interior redesign concept of this new complex develops the idea of an "underwater habitat," so that living beneath the sea is no longer a fantasy but a reality. With the aim of preserving and respecting the Miramar universe while giving this new ensemble its own distinct identity, the living spaces of the Miramar Suites Hotel are all designed so that guests can find comfort, tranquility, and serenity, feeling as if they are fully immersed beneath the “deep blue.”

Marine journey

This project is an aquatic labyrinth incorporating specific water massage areas: jet baths, varied currents, bubble baths, a counter-current walking corridor, and showers that, through the intensity and positioning of their jets, treat different parts of the body according to a defined sequence.

The marine ceiling

Concept

In the luxurious world of the Miramar La Cigale hotel, Volume ABC has envisioned a total immersion into a marine ecosystem. The ceiling, centerpiece of the project, becomes a living work of art that transports visitors into the ocean depths.

Design

The undulating ceiling, dotted with pearly organisms that seem to float in space, creates a unique underwater atmosphere. This original creation interacts harmoniously with the wall textures, which evoke the reflections of the sea and the movement of the waves.

Atmosphere

Between shells and water reflections, each architectural element contributes to this marine narrative. The entrance airlock, with its textured walls, naturally guides visitors toward a majestic hall, while the floor reproduces the movements of ocean currents.

Innovation

The interior design reinvents the codes of luxury hospitality by offering a fully immersive experience. The furniture, inspired by ship prows, fits perfectly into this setting reminiscent of a sophisticated fishing port.

Details

Evoking forms and textures that seem to float above, this creation offers a unique and soothing visual experience. Inspired by aquatic habitats, every detail is carefully crafted to evoke contemplation and escape. This work of art transforms the space into a true underwater retreat, poetically merging architecture with nature. The organic forms emulate the tranquility of marine life, fostering a sense of well-being and connection with the natural world. This biophilic approach stimulates sensory interaction, offering visitors an immersive experience that encourages relaxation and wonder. Aliénor Bechu thus demonstrates the power of interior design to positively influence our state of mind and well-being, by bringing us closer to the natural wonders of the sea.
