First prize of the Prix de Versailles
Two French projects winners of the international architecture award
The Villejuif-Gustave Roussy station and the Ducasse Baccarat restaurant have won the 2025 Prix Versailles in their respective categories. The French architectural achievements have been honoured with a total of five awards.
The Villejuif-Gustave Roussy metro station (Val-de-Marne), designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault, has won the 2025 Prix Versailles in the “Stations” category. The list of winners of this prestigious international architecture award, announced for the past ten years at UNESCO headquarters, was revealed this Thursday, December 4. French projects were in the spotlight for this edition: the Ducasse Baccarat restaurant in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, designed by the French architect Aliénor Bechu, also won the top honour in the “Restaurants” category.
France awarded
The jury of the 2025 Prix Versailles was composed of eminent architects as well as cultural personalities such as the Chinese pianist Lang Lang and the actresses Maria de Medeiros and Emma Watson.
Irina Bokova, former Director-General of UNESCO and president of the jury, specified that the results rewarded cultural resonance, honouring heritage while embracing progress. There were no French members among the jurors, who nevertheless awarded five prizes (out of 24) to buildings completed on French territory. The United States received four awards in this edition, ahead of China (three). France is leading in terms of style, says Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary of the Prix Versailles. That, in a way, is what lies behind the recognition.
